No Map

Sometimes the map will not appear. If the map is one of the large ones you might just have to wait since they can take a while to process. You can usually fix this by switching to another map in the Maps menu. You may be able to prevent this by resizing your applet windows smaller, or by not opening so many applet windows.

Applet Fails to Start

There is a bug in the plug-in where on rare occasions the .jar files are not downloaded completely. In the browser status bar you will see a message like "Start: applet not initiated".

The work-around for Internet Explorer is:

1) Close all your copies of IE until the the little Java man is no longer visible on the task bar

2) Start IE and go to Tools/Internet Options and choose to Delete Files... to clear IE's temporary file cache.

3) Go back to the applet page--the jar files will reload and the applet should start properly.

Doesn't Download Plug-In on Netscape

The newest versions of the Netscape browser already support the latest Java version; they won't download the plug-in but the applet should still download and start automatically.

System Locks up When Trying to Start Applet

This seems to be caused by the Java Plug-In not installing properly. You should be able to fix it by uninstalling and re-installing the plug-in.

Under Add/Remove Programs in the control panel, you should have the option to un-install Java Runtime Environment 1.31. Uninstall it.

The next time you go to the applet page, the plug-in will try to auto-install again. You might have better luck with a manual install. Go to the Sun download page to download the plug-in for manual install.

The War Room Applet Window is Blank Except for the Menu Line

This problem has been seen with Java 1.4; the components in the main window are not laid out correctly. Resizing the window will make the Map Area visible; then you can drag the divider to make the Overview and Interaction Area visible.
